How to create momentum in your business during the summer months

I remember hearing the term "the J months" for the first time in network marketing about 14 years ago when I first got started in this industry.

"The J Months" stands for the summer months or the "slow months" of June and July.

And at first I totally bought into the slow month narrative. My team would completely dissapear for 2 -3 months. Every summer.

Now I call B.S because I've first hand seen how much a network marketing business can grow during the summer months when you have a plan.

I just jumped off my weekly call with my team and at 1pm, in the middle of summer, we had 250+ people join us live.

This doesn't even account for the hundreds who will watch the replay.

So, if you're struggling to show up yourself during the summer months or maybe you're like me where you are consistent all year long, but your team is not then I've got some tips for how you can build momentum during the summer.


TURN CHALLENGES INTO OPPORTUNITIES

Life has challenges. Every time of year comes with it's own set of challenges and when you can learn to view "challenges" as opportunities you will crush your goals. Here are some examples for you.

  1. Kids are home and distracting me

    Your kids being home and off from school is an opportunity to talk about your goals with them. Your kids are part of the sacrifice so make them a part of the reward too. I have always told my kids why I'm working. Whether it's to earn an incentive trip for the whole family, pay for extra activities, or do something special as a family then SHARE that with them.

    Shoot content with your kids, hang out with your kids and friends and share more about your business. There is ALWAYS opportunity in what we sometimes perceive as challenges.

  2. Weather is nice and I want to enjoy it

    Great. You should enjoy your summer. Get outside. and film some content. Take 30-60 minutes a day to get some work done in the morning so you can enjoy the rest of your day. Or better yet take 30-60 minutes a day to work outside. The weather being nice should not be a challenge, it's an opportunity.

  3. I'm traveling and will be too busy

    Travel is such a great opportunity to shoot content in new places. Bring your tripod and get tons of B-roll video in new places. Share with your audience why you are able to have the type of freedom in your life that allows you to travel and pay for it. Show how you travel with your products and how they help you even when you're out of your daily routine. Travel is a great opportunity to share both the business and your products.

STICK TO YOUR DMO (DAILY METHOD OF OPERATION)

I teach my team that your daily method of operation should not take more than 30 minutes - 60 minutes per day. When you consistently do your DMO and stick to it you might be surprised by how much you accomplish in just a small amount of time. Here is the summer DMO that we are doing on our team.

  1. Post daily (3 tiktoks or 2 reels per day)

  2. Stories daily

  3. Check in with your team everyday

  4. 2 follow ups per day

  5. 1 new connection per day

Leaders are built in the summer. The people who keep their foot on the gas pedal all summer long are setting themselves up for fall momentum.

While everyone else is taking a 2-3 month nap you will crush your competition by just showing up daily.
